Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

The OLS Gifted & Talented Enrichment Program promotes excellence in education by providing intellectually engaging experiences for students who are academically capable of an advanced curriculum and who are committed to developing their unique gifts and talents. The goal of the program is to provide these students with opportunities to develop critical thinking skills and knowledge beyond the standard curriculum.

Who Qualifies?

The criteria for inviting students to participate in the program are based on standardized test scores, report card grades and teacher recommendations.

How Will It Be Structured in the School Day?

Students will take enrichment classes built into their daily schedules throughout the week. There will be no interruption of their regular classes while they participate in this program. Daily curriculum will become more individualized to meet the enrichment needs of students that could benefit from a more rigorous curriculum. Classroom and specialized teachers will be responsible for instruction.

A dedicated program structured within the school day that includes:

Students explore self-expression through the visual arts and gain the skills necessary to express their creativity in a variety of art mediums. Students will have the opportunity to explore their hidden talents and showcase their emerging artistic abilities.

Future writers will get their start here by publishing their own books. Students will learn the writing process from beginning to end by researching, drafting, editing, and publishing their own written works. New authors will get the opportunity to do a reading from their work at Fine Arts Night and will share their stories with other classes and peers. A bound book will be their final product to keep.

FUNDATIONS provides children of different learning abilities with a systematic foundation for reading and spelling. It is a multi- sensory language program that utilizes tapping, sky writing, letter boards, dry erase boards, hand movements and specific coding activities to support students in developing a strong phonetic base for decoding unfamiliar words, encoding words, and in reading fluently with understanding.

Our goal is to encourage students to connect with mathematic concepts on a deeper, real-life level, and in a fun and engaging way! Projects will include 3D geometric constructions, learning to measure and use fractions, solving puzzles and word problems, engaging in critical thinking games and more!

Students will expand their skills by applying their knowledge of technology to real-world problem solving. Students will work on coding and creating models using our 3-D printer!

Curriculum in our already flourishing music and language program will expand to include more showcasing of talent and knowledge through presentations, concerts, and fairs.
