We will be implementing Google Classroom for all of our students in grades N-8 as our distance- learning platform. It will be used to take daily attendance and to post and monitor classwork.
Distance learning is new to all of us, and there is a learning curve. We are all in different places, and as a result, we will all be learning together. Our teachers have met yesterday in school and have come up with learning plans, which will be providing lessons on a weekly basis. We spent a lot of time planning and brainstorming how to make our lessons relevant, practical, and engaging. For our grades K-8 this includes “home”work , assessments, longer term projects, and other assignments. Activities and projects will be posted for Nursery through Pre – K students with specific instructions.
Our expectations are to continue to provide our teaching, curriculum and coursework for as long as we are out of school. As time passes and we all get more comfortable on Google Classroom, our lessons will continue to evolve. I ask all students to take the time at home seriously as if they were in the classroom. Parents, as best as you can, set up time and a framework for academics, as well as, free time. We will post example schedules.
Our teachers will be collecting student work , and holding students accountable for the content that is being planned and posted. Teachers will be assessing their next lessons based on the student responses. This will allow students to continue to learn. We ask that you, in your best effort to help us achieve this goal during this time period.
Our teachers are going to be very flexible and understanding about any work that is due and any lessons that are posted during this time period. I urge you and/or your child to communicate via email with the teachers when you have any difficulty with any assignments or procedures. The more we can communicate the better the results will be.
All teachers can be reached via email within regular school hours where they can provide necessary guidance and answer all instruction/academic questions. Instruction by some teachers will evolve to include teacher led videos, Google Hangouts and possibly GoogleMeets. This evolution will be based on grade level and appropriateness.
Students will not be required to follow any strict schedule for classes like they would in school; however, we will provide a basic guide to best help prepare them during this time.
All assignments will be expected to be submitted on specific days and all submission times will be in the early evening. Do your best to complete the assignments on time and be in contact with the classroom teacher if any conflict arises.
Remember, we are taking daily attendance between hours of 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Please do your best to adhere to the procedure in place at this time. Students need to be checking their class pages daily, especially in grades 4-8.
All students have access to Google Classroom and the format for student email is below.
1. Log on to classroom.google.com
2. Student emails are in the following format;
First Name.Last [email protected]
If you have any questions directly for your login or Google Classroom questions please contact your classroom teacher or Mr. Santamaria at [email protected] . Students should continue to use Google Classroom as an academic tool and not as social media site.
This is a learning opportunity for all of us. I am confident that we can work together as a
community to successfully navigate this new experience. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this very trying time. Please contact me via email [email protected] or Ms. Estevez, [email protected] with any questions or concern
We pray that all of our families stay healthy and safe and we are able to return to our regular school year as soon as possible.
